Charge transfer in biomimetic and bioinspired systems
Our research focuses on charge transfer mediated by biomimetic and bioinspired macromolecular and supramolecular systems. Investigations of charge-transfer properties of biomimetic and bioinspired systems will allow us to: (1) elucidate the principles that govern redox processes in biological systems; and (2) develop photoredox materials, based on these principles, for organic electronics and solar-energy-conversion applications.

We are particularly interested in the role of local fields
and of solvation microenvironment on charge-transfer dynamics at molecular and
nanometer scale levels. Employing fundamental principles of how electrostatics
modulates electron transduction, we develop and investigate systems that
mediate efficient photoinduced charge transfer (e.g., charge separation) and
suppress the undesired back charge transfer (e.g., charge recombination).
